The new Forester gains 9 cm in overall length and is 9 cm longer in the wheelbase. This Subaru is available in 2.5X and 2.5XT Limited trim levels, the latter with a turbocharged engine. Interior and cargo area Easy to enter and exit, the Forester offers very comfortable front seats with good side support. However, the side bolsters narrow the seats somewhat for stocky people, especially when they’re wearing heavy clothing. Some people also find the passenger seat a bit low. The driving position is very good, thanks to the tilt- telescoping steering wheel. Headroom is generous, even with the sunroof and even for tall individuals, and there is ample legroom. The 60/40-split backseat is comfortable for two adults. Headroom and legroom are good. The seatback folds almost flat to the floor but leaves a space behind the front seats into which a pet could tumble. Except for the base model, all versions have a reclining seatback. The cargo area is easy to reach and roomy, with a cargo tray in all but the base model. With a new, double-wishbone rear suspension instead of struts, cargo capacity increases substantially (by 562 litres with the backseat up). More storage is available under the floor in the middle of the full-size spare tire cover. There are no anchor points for a vertical net, but a compartment divider is available as an accessory. Convenience and safety features The cabin is well finished in good-quality materials. However, the back of the rear seatback rattles annoyingly. Sound isolation is more than adequate. Storage spaces abound. The front cup holders are square-shaped and don’t grip containers very well, especially the bigger ones.
Instruments and controls are well displayed. At night, nearly all the controls are lighted—but not the glove compartment. The climate control system works well but has difficulty cooling the interior at temperatures above25o C.
